About Marty
He was born to working class parents in 1959. He has lived all of his life in Hixson. The strong influence of parents helped mold him into a man who seeks opportunities to be involved and help make a difference in a variety of activities.
As early as high school he was involved in student council and several service clubs.
Marty has worked most of his adult life in industrial sales. During college at UTC, he began working at a local company, Brandt Industries, and eventually joined their sales force. In 1988, he joined the Washington Mills Company, where he became regional manager for industrial sales. Marty worked with a variety of industries from aerospace, automotive, military, etc. He developed a strong distributor base from Florida to Ohio for Washington Mills. In 2000, he became a sales representative for Porter Warner Industries located in Chattanooga. During his career with PWI, Marty has worked with a variety of local companies to help solve their industrial needs. His customers are some of Chattanooga’s most well known small businesses and Fortune 500 companies.
Marty has been involved in a variety of community- and school-related activities over the years. Currently he is President of the Hixson Kiwanis Club. He is also President of the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club. He helps prepare meals at the Ronald McDonald House with a group of volunteers from the Hixson community. He has served on the Hamilton County School System’s Discipline Committee. He is past Vice President of Hixson High PTA and past board member at Hixson Youth Athletic Association. When Hixson High School held its centennial anniversary in 2009, Marty served as co-chairman of the event. His efforts help establish a scholarship for a deserving senior from HHS. He is also a member of the Hixson High Hall of Fame for his efforts in community service. He is a member of the Chattanooga Quarterback Club. In 1984, he was named an Outstanding Young Man of America.
Marty is an active member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church. He is campus director at SHBC’s Chattanooga Campus. He has served as a Sunday school teacher and has led several men’s study classes.
Marty has two grown sons, David (26) and Miller (21). Both sons are graduates of Hixson High. David and his wife Nicki, have a daughter Marjorie, who is a student at Hixson Middle School. Marty’s son Miller is a senior at UTC.
Marty is the son of W. D. and Norma Haynes—also graduates of Hixson High. Marty is always pleased to remind folks his parents were Mr. & Mrs. Hixson High School in 1951.
